The canopy is the roof. You are buying shade and rain cover you can move, not a pergola built into a garden. Our canopies use coated, UV-stabilised fabric on a powder-coated steel frame so equatorial sun and Nairobi downpours do not finish the tent in one season.

Leave the sides open for airflow at a daytime market or a dry garden lunch. Zip walls onto the windward side when dust or rain blows in. Standard tents use 3 side walls with an open front. Tents with windows use windowed walls instead.
Solid walls give a larger branding panel and more privacy. Windows keep the space bright when you still want the walls up. Either way the roof is the same waterproof canopy.
Stalls need a roof that comes down at closing time. Outdoor events need cover that does not wait on a marquee crew. Gardens need shade you can put away when the lawn is in use. Schools and churches use the 3x6m as seating cover and the 3x3m for registration or tea.

After rain, dry the roof and walls before they go in the bag. That is the main way to avoid mildew in humid Kenya. Peg or weight every leg in open ground — wind lifts an unweighted frame faster than rain soaks a coated canopy.
Do not leave the tent standing through a storm. Take it down, dry it, set it up again when the weather passes.
